A group show of newly produced landscape works by Boomoon, Edward Burtynsky and Nadav Kander. Taken from a frontal viewpoint, Boomoon’s Skogar series captures distinct variations of light and form within the arrested momentum of a singular waterfall. Burtynsky’s Salt Pans are composed from a topographical perspective, with a dizzying aspect that flattens the grid-like network of wells, pans and vehicle tracks into equally weighted pictorial elements of line, form and space. In his ongoing series To the Estuary, Nadav Kander creates vertical compositions depicting vast expanses of sky over the River Thames. Through characteristic poeticism, Kander conveys a sense of energy that flat, open spaces provoke, as well as the atmosphere that sea and sky induce.
Also on show will be unique photographic works derived from found materials by mixed media artists Julie Cockburn and Tom Lovelace. Julie Cockburn’s altered found photographs are engendered from of a concoction of appropriation, artistry and artifice. Neglected photographs co-opted from flea markets, studio shots of 1950s movie stars, pages torn from American high school year books become playthings for the artist to embellish, manipulate, torture and caress. Whilst in Spoleto, Italy Tom Lovelace found a series of faded bacheche at the central theatre. They had been bleached by the sun over the years and the overlapping traces created by pinned sheets of paper were unintentionally turned into ready-made photograms.
