German painter Friedemann Hahn is known for his expressive, figurative interpretations of legendary artists and cultural icons. Throughout the early to mid-1980s, he created a famous series of works dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh, blending painterly abstraction with historical homage. In Kopf mit Blumen, 1992, Hahn imagines an abstracted field of iris flowers merging his own practice with that of the impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. Hahn camouflages a suggested portrait of the late artist amongst the flowers' blooms.
