June Storm in Wales, 2022, represents David Dawson's return to his childhood home to explore the nature and solitude of its surroundings. Painted outdoors during each season of the year, the artist then continues to work on them in his London studio before completing them back in the Welsh countryside. Having left Wales for London when he was a student, the canvas possesses a deeply autobiographical quality, representative of Dawson's formative years. The artist is not interested in highlighting the idyllic landscape of the remote rolling hills and valleys; instead, he emphasises '...it's land that's working.'
David Dawson was a close confidant of Lucien Freud and the subject of several very well-known paintings.
