Leaving the Park depicts a tall tree looming above a stark landscape. The flatness of the green field is interrupted by the presence of three figures. A parent and child stand below the shadow of the tree, whilst a singular figure appears in the foreground, exiting the park. Kirby has drawn from Surrealist motifs to create a dream-like atmosphere through constructing a composition using an irrational perspective, a lack of unified light source, and elongation of shadows, to produce a transformative view of a mundane scene.
