Biography
MOVANA CHEN (b 1974)
Movana Chen is a Hong Kong-based artist who studied at the London College of Fashion and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in Hong Kong.
Since 2004 she has been weaving people's stories through KNITerature - a genre that involves the deconstruction and reconstruction of meanings and content by knitting books. Her work is a multi-disciplinary fusion of media, performance, installation and sculpture which has been presented at different exhibitions, art festivals and events globally, from Hong Kong to London, Paris, Venice, Rotterdam, Beijing, Singapore, Seoul, Istanbul to Siberia, and the most recently at the 14th Factory, Los Angeles, and a large-scale 20,000 square feet installation "KNITerature" solo exhibition at ArtisTree in Hong Kong in 2013.
Movana was one of the 30 finalists of the 2011 and 2012 Sovereign Asian Art Prize. Her works have been collected by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum; M+ Museum, Hong Kong; CHAT, Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile, Hong Kong; Louis Vuitton; and Cathay Pacific.
