Lucy Jones The Sky Gets Inside, 2005
30 x 24 in
The Sky Gets Inside (2005) is an atmospheric version of Jones’ landscape paintings with a vivid blue complexion, enhanced with ruby lips alongside her astonished demeanor. Her green hair is reminiscent of a displaced meadow. The predominance of the mustard yellow background has become overshadowed by the large black brushstrokes, reminiscent of a stormy cloud. The bold mark making is evocative of the strident confidence of Abstract Expressionist painter Franz Kline. The painting was certainly inspired by the rural countryside as it was produced a year after Jones and her husband moved from London to Shropshire.
