London-based artist Trevor Sutton (b 1948) makes art that embodies the restraints of a ritualistic and pragmatic process with that of pure sensual pleasure. The atmospheric references to landscape visible in much of his work have been superseded by a significant withdrawal to a less referential abstract position. Where formerly his colour-saturated works have offered the viewer remote spaces in which to place their imaginings, the re-emergence of the grid now takes precedence.
Drypoint with chine-collé is a printmaking method where a design is scratched into a plate and printed while simultaneously bonding a delicate paper to the print surface for added texture or color.
British artist Trevor Sutton is represented in public collections including the Tate Gallery, London and Pallant House, Chichester.
