British artist John McLean's (1939-2019) exuberant abstract works are fluidly handled in rich earth tones and vibrant primaries. The visible interactions of simple geometric shapes and discreet colours are static but entirely dynamic in effect. The placement of colour, texture, and tone creates a set of active relationships and lyricism.
Etching with aquatint and chine-collé combines tonal shading created by aquatint with the addition of a thin decorative paper, bonded during printing to enhance texture and color.
John McLean is represented in public collections including the Tate, London, and the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh.
