British artist John McLean's (1939-2019) exuberant abstract works are fluidly handled in rich earth tones and vibrant primaries. The visible interactions of simple geometric shapes and discreet colours are static but entirely dynamic in effect. The placement of colour, texture, and tone creates a set of active relationships and lyricism.
Etching with chine-collé is a printmaking technique where a thin decorative paper is bonded to a thicker backing paper during the printing process, allowing the etched image to be printed and adhered in one step.
John McLean is represented in public collections including the Tate, London, and the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh.
