Kleio Gizeli is Honorary Artist at the 2015 Athens International Film Festival

The Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights was founded by the Athens Film Society (a Non-Profit Organisation) with the intention of highlighting lesser-known genres of independent cinema. The Festival was launched in September 1995 and continues to draw large crowds.

This year's art intervention, “the secret”, was designed by Flowers Gallery artist Kleio Gizeli and curated by Orestis Andreadakis. The project is an attempt to document the process of concealment and disclosure and consists of six constructions inspired by Thomas Edison's Kinetoscope to be placed in the festival's four screening venues throughout the event. A peeping hole will allow audiences to discover the secrets within.

Gizeli will also be exhibiting five micro-installations of her own at the Greek Film Archive, combining micro-sculpture with sound, light, animation and motion to narrate fragments in the daily lives of five fantastical characters. The artist has also produced an animation which will be projected in all cinemas at the festival before each film begins.
