"The images in the exhibition oscillate between these twin poles. Howson’s Christ (as with many of his other characters) is muscular and strong. In Jesus, strength is combined with tenderness, while in others, strength is often overreach and therefore a sign of weakness, leading hopefully, as was the case for Howson himself, to confession and repentance."
