The self-published edition, limited to 50 concertina books, each includes 10 hand-painted photographs.

 

Inspired by feminist and performance art history, Gabby Laurent combines photography and performance to explore themes of aggression, control, vulnerability, motherhood, and domesticity.

 

Our bellybuttons serve as a reminder of the physical connection we once had—a line to our mothers and to life itself. This work reflects on a growing sense of disconnection: from ourselves, from each other, from history, and from the land. It is, ultimately, a reminder to reconnect.
