Jakkai Siributr featured in Setouchi Triennale 2025
There’s no Place by Jakkai Siributr is being shown at the Setouchi Asia Gallery on Fukuda, alongside his latest installation, Despatch, which is part of the Autumn Session on Tomari / Koushou.
Despatch is a newly commissioned body of work addressing Japan’s rapidly aging population. Created from garments donated by residents of Honjima and surrounding islands in the Seto Inland Sea, the textiles are cut, disassembled, and reconstructed into large-scale tapestries inspired by Boro textiles, a traditional Japanese practice of repairing and reusing old garments.
Each layer of fabric carries traces of its former wearer, weaving together personal histories and collective memory. Through these intricate compositions, Jakkai reflects on continuity, resilience, and the stories passed down through generations.
