The exhibition stages a conversation among works from throughout Nina Katchadourian’s career, artifacts of her family’s history, and works drawn from the museum’s collection.

Acquired in 2020, this work is from Shen Wei’s Between Blossoms series, a collection of images taken on Wei's travels through Europe, the US and Asia. In the series, Wei concentrates on the interactions between light and dark in the natural world, finding inspiration in old Chinese painting and its tradition of treating emptiness as solid space, as well as the concept of “qi” or chi — the life force that, according to ancient Chinese philosophy, runs through all natural phenomena.
