Artist of the Day 2014

Overview

Flowers Gallery is pleased to announce the 21st edition of Artist of the Day, a valuable platform for emerging artists since 1983. This two week exhibition showcases the work of ten emerging artists, chosen not by the gallery, but by established professional practitioners who have each nominated a talent of their choice.

Each selected artist will present a solo body of work at our Cork Street Gallery for one day only, open for public view 11am - 7pm. The selected artist will be present throughout the day, and the selector will also attend to discuss the collection with visitors. None of the chosen practitioners have exhibited with Flowers Gallery to date, and for many this will be their inaugural show in the UK capital.

The criteria for selection are talent, originality, promise and the ability to benefit from a one-day exhibition of their work. The 2014 chosen artists cover the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, video and performance art, offering a unique glimpse into rising stars of the art world as chosen by some of the most prominent figures in contemporary art.

To celebrate the rich history of this exhibition and the many artists who have contributed to its success, Flowers Gallery has published a 108 page catalogue documenting the show. The publication includes the heartfelt and amusing personal accounts of previous selectors and selected artists alongside archive photographs and press cuttings. Printed in full colour with a stunning range of artisan papers, the catalogue has the feel of a cherished scrap book. Please join us for the launch of this beautiful publication on Saturday 28th June, 11am - 1pm. The launch coincides with a group exhibition of the 2014 week one Artist of the Day selected artists. Refreshments will be served.
