In recent years, Emma Turpin (b 1964) has been exploring landscape as shelter. There is an ambiguity in Turpin's work that simultaneously evokes the comfort of finding shelter and the isolation of an unfamiliar environment. Instead of depicting a specific place, Turpin express a layered mix of emotional responses shaped by her lifelong observations of her surroundings. She works intensely with her palette, harmoniously creating worlds filled with colour.
