Thomas Ehretsmann (b. 1974, Thann, France) studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, graduating in 1998. In 2009, Ehretsmann studied in Norway with the renowned painter Odd Nerdrum, an experience that deeply influenced his approach to fine art. His paintings have been exhibited in the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London (2016, 2017, 2019), where Double Portrait received second prize in 2017.
My paintings are the combination of my work as an illustrator and my practice of drawing from life. I want them to be as simple and bare as possible, so every tiny detail finds a voice that echoes in real life.
