Through blending recent and past artistic traditions, John Stark (b 1979) creates a Neo-Medieval world of magical realism, exploring imagination with the personal and political. His recent still lives meditate on Memento Mori and the transience of life. The oil on copper paintings use photorealist and old master techniques to transform everyday items into metaphors for desire, nourishment, and mortality. Stark expresses personal poetry through simple arrangements and clear vision.
Born in London, Stark graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 2004. He lives and works in East Sussex.
