In Whilst Walking, London-based sculptor Ashley Cluer (b. 2001) uses layers of newspaper to texture the concrete with undulating rolls. The oil paint captures the fast, rhythmic energy of Cluer's daily walk to her studio through Hampstead Heath. Inspired by the shifting views of London, the work's surface becomes a record of movement and place, balancing the industrial and the organic of the everyday.
Cluer graduated from The Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing, University of Oxford, in 2022. In 2025, Cluer was nominated for the PSSA Marsh Award of Excellence in Public Sculpture and was shortlisted as a finalist for The Ingram Prize.
