London-based artist Laura Smith (b 1980) approaches objects with anthropomorphic qualities as they interact with one another and with the spaces. The work moves between narrative and abstraction, aware that the manner of depiction can render an object unfamiliar.
Still life allows me the greatest freedom to express my emotions. The placement, manipulation, and gesture of the objects, as well as how they interact with one another, is a big driving force for me.
