Monique Lovering was born in Devon in 1960 and migrated with her family to Australia before moving to New Zealand, where she spent her formative years in Rotorua. She studied at the Queensland College of Art before working for 25 years as a graphic designer.
Lovering's work now merges this sensibility with a New Zealand earthiness, exploring resilience, memory, and the human instinct to create beauty. Physical touch and bodily tension are central to her process, guiding the viewer's encounter with the work.
