When I really look at something and paint it, that’s my world for a while. Close observation and engagement bring control and comfort in contrast to the chaos outside. I think the reason I do it is to show that world to someone else.
Mark Entwisle (b 1961) has been the recipient of many prestigious awards and prizes, such as: the BP Portrait Award; the RA Summer Show; The Discerning Eye; and the Lynn Painters-Stainers Prize. Mark also teaches part-time at the National Portrait Gallery.
