Ayumi Matsuba's (b. 1977) recent practice is based on the landscapes of Singapore, where the artist lives and works. The scenes are drawn from the everyday surroundings of the city, and the fleeting moments of stillness that inspire her paintings.
In my painting process, I intentionally avoid rendering too much detail. This is partly an aesthetic choice- I like simplified forms and colours- but also, without details, I aim to leave more space for imagination.
