British artist Stephen Chambers RA (b. 1960) is renowned for his distinct visual language encompassing flat planes of intense colour and pattern. Chambers describes his painting as being about 'states of mind' and talks of being 'interested in paradox; the welding together of seduction and mayhem, innocence and menace, serenity and anarchy.' Born in London, Chambers trained at Central St Martin's and the Chelsea School of Art. His work is represented in public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
