Join us in the gallery for a conversation between artist Gabby Laurent and Gem Fletcher, writer and podcaster. The two will discuss the conceptual and material processes behind the works on view in Laurent's current exhibition Close to Home.
London-based artist Gabby Laurent graduated with a Photography MA from Plymouth University in 2017. Laurent also works as a commercial photographer with clients including Vogue, The V&A, The Financial Times, Christie's, Armani, Harper's Bazaar US and Wallpaper.
Gem Fletcher's work has been published in The British Journal of Photography, Foam, Aperture, Creative Review, It’s Nice That and An0ther, and she has written catalogue texts for Rhiannon Adam and Flora Hanitijo, amongst others. In 2019, Gem launched The Messy Truth podcast, a series of candid conversations that unpack the future of visual culture and what it means to be a photographer today. Now in its sixth season, Gem explores reflections on criticism, starting out, mental health, money and success with guests like Antwuan Sargent, Catherine Opie, Farah Al Qasimi, Carmen Winant, Charlotte Cotton, Quil Lemons, Brea Souders and Laia Abril.
