Flowers Gallery will exhibit work by represented photographers at PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai, part one of two annual fairs engaging collectors across Asia-Pacific and the Pacific Rim.

Exhibiting Photographers at Booth CO2:

Boomoon

Since the 1980s, Boomoon has produced large format photographs of vast expanses of sea, sky and land as a means of self-reflection, which Charlotte Cotton has described as contemplating “the unknowable and uncontrollable character of nature.” Our 2016 booth will feature work from the South Korean photographer's series 'Skogar', photographed at Skogar Falls, Iceland. The work explores the powerful elemental force of the waterfall and continues Boomoon’s ongoing investigation into the infinite and ungovernable character of the natural world.

Shen Wei

Shen Wei is known for his intimately revealing photographic portraits, in which the themes of identity, memory, sexuality and self-discovery are explored through the landscapes of his homeland, and the nude figure. He is also inspired by the Chinese philosophy of Qi - an unseen life force and a method of healing. This concept of energy flow is deeply rooted in Chinese traditional culture, and is gaining wider interest in the contemporary western world. Flowers Gallery will exhibit the artist's series 'Between Blossoms'. 

Mona Kuhn

Our booth will feature work from Kuhn's series 'Acido Dorado', which is set against the backdrop of the Californian desert, and photographed at the golden modernist structure Acido Dorado in Joshua Tree National Park. This body of work brings together the figure, abstractions and landscape into one. The building’s facade is glass and mirrors; it serves as an optical extension to the artist’s camera and lens. Light is split into refracting colours, desert vegetation grows sideways, inside is outside and outside in. Kuhn’s playful combination of a number of visual strategies, such as patterning, translucency and reflectivity, appear to dissolve into the disorienting desert landscape. Kuhn reflects on our connectedness with the environment and questions our place within it.
